Process

How engagements run.

Every engagement, custom or fixed-scope, follows the same four-stage shape. Every decision is documented, not left implicit for someone else to reverse-engineer later.

01

Discovery

Every engagement starts with an initial call to understand what’s actually needed. For systems that require hands-on or on-site access, that’s followed by an in-person visit.

02

Assessment & Architecture

Understanding what the client actually needs, then combining that with my own technical judgment into a real proposal, delivered in whatever format makes the decision clearest: a written document, a diagram, a cost breakdown. Work begins once the proposal is agreed and terms are settled.

03

Delivery

Building and shipping, with a communication cadence the client controls: regular check-ins, not silence until a reveal. For software development, the project’s actual goals set the timeline, not a fixed formula. Most engagements land in a 3–7 day window, but scope always comes before a number.

04

Documentation & Handoff

What's handed over depends on what was actually built. For a website or system with an admin layer, that includes real admin access; a static, content-only site has no such layer to hand over in the first place. Either way, the goal is the same: a system someone else can actually maintain, not a black box only I can operate.

Engagement models

How an engagement is structured depends on scope and organization type. This is confirmed together during Discovery, not assumed upfront.

Time-boxed project

A defined scope delivered within an agreed window: the right fit for a single system, feature, or migration.

Advisory retainer

Ongoing architecture review and technical guidance for teams who need a standing second opinion, not a one-off build.

Enterprise / government engagement

Custom-scoped to match procurement and compliance requirements. See Trust & Security for how confidentiality and data handling are managed.

Capacity, stated plainly

I intentionally limit myself to 3–4 new advisory engagements per quarter, so every client gets direct, hands-on attention. Every engagement is handled personally, end-to-end.
